TExES Exam Requirements

Teach North Texas students have two exams required for certification: the content exam related to their subject and a pedagogy exam.

Content Exams vary by field:

  • TExES Chemistry 7-12 (240)
  • TExES Computer Science 8-12 (241)
  • TExES Life Science 7-12 (238)
  • TExES Mathematics 7-12 (235)
  • TExES Physics/Math 7-12 (243)
  • TExES Physical Science 6-12 (237)

Practice Exam Requirement

All Teach North Texas candidates must be admitted to the Teacher Education Program to take the practice exam.  Candidates must achieve an appropriate score on a practice exam to receive approval to take their official exams.  Accommodations for the practice exams in the TExES Canvas course can be made by emailing COE-TSO@unt.edu.  In your email request, please provide the specific accommodations you are approved for through the ODA and include your UNT ID number.

TExES Exam Registration

After you have met the practice exam requirement, you will receive approval to take your official certification exams.  The TExES Success Office will provide you with step-by-step instructions on how to register for your exams.  Once you are approved, you can schedule your exams at any test center convenient to you that has availability prior to the deadlines.  Failure to complete the exams by established deadlines will result in delays in graduation or dismissal from the Teacher Education Program.

TExES Exam Costs and Accommodations

  • The price of exams is set by the Pearson testing company and include the exam fee plus electronic payment convenience fees.  Students are expected to cover the exam fees out of pocket.
  • Accommodations must be arranged through the Pearson testing company and you will not be able to submit your request until you have met the practice exam requirement and received approval for your official exam.  Please plan ahead as it can take 6-8 weeks, or longer, to receive approval from the testing company for your accommodation request. It is strongly recommended that you review the documentation requirements well ahead of time so that when you receive approval to test, you can submit your request form and documentation swiftly.
  • More information about requesting accommodations can be found here
